Wilson is Founder and Principal Consultant for Location Based Strategy, LLC, providing strategic consulting to the Location Based Services (LBS)/Mobile industry, with an emphasis on mobile and social commerce.

Wilson has 10+ years experience in the LBS space and is a thought-leader in the rapidly developing field of “mobile proof of presence” location validation (via “check-ins” or tracked purchases, for example). He is the Editor of the “LBS” topic page on Ulitzer and the author of a widely-followed Location Based Strategy blog. He has been recently featured in GPSBusinessNews, Mobile Marketer, Mobile Commerce Daily, and the Classic Guide To Mobile Advertising. Consulting clients include Unbound Commerce, Nokia, TomTom, The Travel Channel/Scripps Media, Langenscheidt Publishing, Intellistry, Parking In Motion, GPS-POI-US, and others.

He is an accomplished moderator, speaker and mentor, via involvement with regional and national conferences, trade shows, and mobile industry gatherings. Wilson sits on the Executive Committee of a large non-profit corporation and leads their social media marketing and communication/PR efforts. He teaches a Social Media 101 course for non-profits and volunteers his time to assist organizations that support causes he believes in.

Prior to starting Location Based Strategy, LLC in 2007, Wilson held positions in Business Development, Sales, and Digital Licensing at The North Face, Outdoor Intelligence, FHS Maps and, most-recently, Tele Atlas North America. Wilson has expertise in mobile marketing, social media, content aggregation and licensing, and business development across a broad range of platforms. He has worked with top tier brands, content providers, device manufacturers, mobile platforms, and application developers.

As Business Development Director at Tele Atlas, his accomplishments included the successful building and positioning of the landmark Brand Icon Program. In this capacity, Wilson executed license agreements to integrate branded locations into the Tele Atlas base map product offering with Bank Of America, McDonald's, Starbucks, Starwood, FedEx, Chevron, Wal-Mart, Hilton, Shell Oil, and approximately 110 other nationally recognized consumer brands. This unique program allowed database license partners to integrate branded points into their navigation platforms, adding unique end-user functionality based on high-value cooperative namebrand recognition linked to accurate and verified retail locations. He also licensed 25 differentiating content datasets for inclusion into the ContentLink program, including known and trusted “premium partner” branded location-based content from Wcities, Zagat Survey, and The Travel Channel (Scripps Media).

Prior to holding this position, Wilson was VP Sales and Business Development for Fishing Hot Spots Maps, where he oversaw the successful sale of a proprietary FHS Map Geodatabase and online map server to Garmin, Lowrance, Thales Navigation/Magellan, Navionics, C-Map, Northport Systems, ESPNOutdoors, and others. His proven sales track record at FHS, The North Face and eAngler.com serve as a foundation for his ability to convey a value proposition cleanly and with effect.

Wilson holds a Cum Laude Bachelor of Arts degree Major in Sociology from Denison University, with a Communications Minor. And he loves to flyfish.
